14-4's WEEKLY WRAP - Wk 13

14-4’S WEEKLY WRAP – WEEK 13

Today the Comets played Santa Sabina Seniors who whilst on the bottom of the ladder, gave our girls a good hit out. We welcomed JoJo back from 5 weeks away from netball and it was an opportunity to use the match to re-set some of our different combinations.

The Comets started well which was pleasing to see kicking out to a 7 – 4 lead at 1st quarter change (Lia 5 / Mel 2). A few sloppy uncharacteristic throw-ins gave the ball back to Santa Sabina although these were quickly amended in the effort to respect our ball more.

JoJo jumped into GS 2nd qtr and it took her a while to find the shooting range landing 1 goal. Lia was still on song scoring 6 goals. We have such a strong defence with VAK (Verity, Anna and Katherine) defending superbly to keep Santa scoreless 2nd quarter. Good ball back to Rachel and Lucy, both playing well, to feed the goal circle with Comets going into half-time 14 - 4.

Lia took a knock to her fingers and rested 3rd quarter with Mel dropping into GA. Again some time to re-work the combination with JoJo but once sorted, Mel scored 4 nice goals and JoJo 1 of her own to give the Comets a 19 – Santa 7 score at three-qtr time.

Katherine took a rest for the last qtr after umpiring the earlier game and then playing a strong game for us in GD, also being the well-deserved recipient of today’s Coach award. Rachel had another really good game earning the other team’s vote for MVP. The Santa girls passed well in the last qtr to give their shooters enough ball to land 7 goals although we kept our scoring up with Mel 1 and Lia 4. Final hooter Comets 24 – Santa Sabina 14.

As a side comment, Verity asked to practice Toss-Ups at training last Tuesday which we did. It was a funny request at the time as we haven’t had one on game day all season and probably last season as well. So would you believe 4th qtr today the umpire called for a Toss-Up, Verity was part of it and yes, she won it so well done Verity.

Good work today ladies.

Once again a big team thank you to Leisha and Gill for keeping the sideline checks and balances and girls, don’t forget uniforms on Tuesday for team photos...... plus a good training ready for the Ravens next week.
