Hi all,
Please find following an email sent to all Club Secretaries from ERNA:
Congratulations to all the teams who have made the semi-finals and move through to the grand finals over the next three weeks. Now, you know I am not normally a grumpy person and can go with the punches but I need to put these next few paragraphs in the strongest possible terms so you can emphasise t your club the seriousness of this issue.
This is just a reminder to you all to speak to those teams: their players, coaches, managers and spectators that abuse of umpires and other players WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
All umpires allocated to Finals Series games are badged umpires and will penalise teams and sidelines according to the severity of abuse. If the Umpiring Committee are called to any abue issues we will deal with them in the most serious way, seeking to enforce the harshest penalties available to us through the Discipline procedures.
It is hard enough to train up our umpires to National standard and we will not lose them because of sideline or on court abuse.
This is a most serious matter and I am sick of receiving weekly reports of umpires in tears or being blamed for team losses or being yelled at because parents cannot control their sideline rage. It has to stop and we will make an example of someone if we have to.
All the best to your teams. May they all play well and remember that the umpire only needs to blow his/her whistle if the players disobey the rules. In the end, the best team will win.
Take care
