14-4’S WEEKLY WRAP – WEEK 15
Today the 14’s bounced back against OLMC Parramatta 9’s winning 24 – 3. Unfortunately one of the OLMC girls came off injured reducing them to just 6 for half a game which allowed us to drive straight through the centre into the goal circle where JoJo playing half the game in GS shot 8 goals for a personal best game tally. Well done JoJo and worthy dual-winner of the team award today.
With the 13’s playing at the same time as us this week we couldn’t cheer them on but, with a full team complement all arriving on time and with no umpiring duties, we had a really good team warm-up today led by Mel – good one Mel. The girls switched straight on shooting 6 goals to 2 in the 1st qtr (Mel 3 / Lia 3).
Our defensive unit of Katherine, Verity and Anna dominated and starved OLMC of shooting opportunities whilst pushing fast turn-over ball straight back down court for the Comets to land 8 goals (JoJo 4 / Lia 4). Rachel was again her tireless self in Centre also securing turn-over ball and linking with Lucy to feed lovely ball into our goal circle. Rachel and Lucy both having strong games with Rachel earning OLMC’s vote for MVP. Well done Rachel. Half-time Comets 14 – OLMC 3.
Mel came back on and slotted 3 lovely goals from GA, working well with JoJo in the circle (4 goals) to stretch the lead to 21 – 3 at 3/4 time.
Rachel came off for a well-earned rest with Lucy dropping into Centre and JoJo into WA. We turned over a bit more ball in the last quarter reducing our scoring opportunities with Lia landing 2 and Mel 1, although the wind picked up making shooting at the river end a bit more difficult. Our defence remained tight keeping OLMC scoreless the whole second half. Well done KVA with Katherine also winning the team award today. Final score Comets 24 – OLMC 3.
So ladies, whilst not a really strong hit-out before the grand final a good game never-the-less so well done. From me, Gill, Leisha and all the proud parents, a big congratulations is in order for being minor premiers, finishing on top of the ladder. After coming equal 4th and missing the finals last year, well done this year for making the grand final.
Thanks again to Leisha and Gill for the sideline checks and balances and let's enjoy our lead-up into next week.
Ladies: I will try and arrange a game for us next Saturday 21st either at Dunrossil or Meadowbank. I will let you know at training.
