ERNA Encouragement Award

While it's always great to hear about how our girls are peforming on the court, whether it be winning or coming second in that particular game, we rarely hear about our umpires.

This week I was very pleased to hear that Rachel Bell had been awarded ERNA's Encouragement award.  It's a very positive step toward National C Badge and I'm looking forward to hearing that our other umpires will follow suit.

This year Rachel Bell, Katherine Joannou and Lia Sangkhul took on umpiring duties for our club and helped other clubs too.  Sharron Chen participated in the Umpiring Development Program earlier this year and was umpiring our 10/4 duty at Brush Farm for the second half of the season.

Well done to our 4 umpires who will (hopefully) continue to read their rule books regularly, improving their knowledge and skills. 

We are in a very exciting phase of development of our club with so many of our girls umpiring and others wanting to take up umpiring.  So I encourage all our 13's and 14's to do your Section 1 Theory Exam and participate in 2011 Umpiring Development Program (UDP). 

If you are wanting to umpire (and get PAID!), let me know so that I can start to organise support umpires for UDP which should run weeks 2-8 next year.  You may think that it's too early.  Think again!
